Could Liverpool unleash 19-year-old 'young Steven Gerrard' v Milan tonight?

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has told reporters he plans to rotate his squad for Tuesday’s Champions League trip to AC Milan.

The Reds are already through to the last 16 of the competition and will finish top of Group B, sitting 10 points clear of second place.

Liverpool have a busy festive schedule ahead of them, so it’s no surprise to hear Klopp say he’s going to make widescale changes.

“We have to rotate, we will rotate, that’s clear – ‘we have to’ is the headline actually,” Klopp said at his pre-match press conference on Monday.

Liverpool have had several high-calibre youngsters come through the ranks in recent years, so it could be a good chance for some more to feature.

And one of those has already featured in the Premier League and Champions League this season, so he could well get another start.

That player is Tyler Morton, who has impressed for the seniors and at age level this term.

The 19-year-old midfielder has been at the academy since the age of seven and made his Under-23s debut in 2020-21.

Morton netted 10 goals for the Liverpool U18s and U23s in 2020-21 and played a key role as the young Reds reached the FA Youth Cup final.

This season, he has made 14 competitive appearances in all competitions, including his senior debut in the Carabao Cup win over Norwich.

Morton also played the full 90 minutes against Porto in the Champions League and came off the bench against Arsenal in the league.

An all-action, well rounded midfielder, Morton can be used as a holding midfielder or at the point of a diamond.

Liverpool at Milan away would be the perfect opportunity for Morton to start – let’s hope he does and, if so, he delivers a masterclass.
