Back in 2019, Leeds United were linked with a move for former Real Madrid winger and Spanish international, Jese.
The 27-year-old, now with PSG, was said to be on the radar of Marcelo Bielsa as he looked to build a squad capable of challenging for promotion, with Leeds still in the Championship at that point.
Of course, the thought of a Championship club landing a player like Jese was big news. The Spaniard has won two Champions League titles and had been a useful squad player for Madrid over the years.
No deal was ever concluded but Leeds – Bielsa is still keen – could now have the chance to make a move for Jese, with Deportes claiming PSG are actively looking to move the winger on.
So, with Premier League football and budget now in place, could Jese be someone who Bielsa does indeed look to go back in for?
Seems unlikely, others are doing their job
Jese is a quality player who just seems to have struggled in Paris. Obviously, he did have a spell with Stoke that didn’t exactly go brilliantly, but you don’t play for Madrid for years without being a good player.
But the issue for Jese and Leeds now is that the Whites have other options in wide forward areas. Raphinha is looking like a great buy, while Jack Harrison retains the trust of Bielsa.
Helder Costa is still in the squad, while Pablo Hernandez and Ian Poveda can also play wide. It goes without saying, then, that someone in the mold of Jese is not really top of the agenda for Leeds now.
Of course, if Bielsa is a big fan and PSG are intent on selling, then there might be something there. But he’d have to come in January, giving him little time to adapt to the ‘BielsaBall’.
For now, at least, it seems the ship might have sailed when it comes to Jese and Leeds United.
