Could Juventus’ Paulo Dybala be the next Galactico signing at Manchester United?

The Sun claim that Manchester United are preparing to become the latest top European club to join the race for Juventus hitman Paulo Dybala after Manchester City, Barcelona, Real Madrid and others have all been linked with a move for the Argentinean. After scoring 19 Serie A goals last season he has so far recorded goals in nine starts this campaign and the Turin club are understandably reluctant to sell the 23-year-old, but may consider offers if they exceed the £50 million mark.

What would he bring to the Red Devils?

It’s rumoured that United see Dybala as the long term replacement for Zlatan Ibrahimovic and it’s clear to see why. What he lacks in physicality compared to the Swede he more than makes up for in pace, and he has a sharp eye for goal with brilliant finishing. A specialist at set pieces too, Dybala really can score from anywhere. His movement is also a real pain and he certainly isn’t afraid to pick up the ball and run with it. Perhaps his only weakness is his ability in the air.

Is a move likely?

It’s certainly possible. United spent much of last summer negotiating with the Old Lady to secure the services of Paul Pogba which may help them, and whilst they may not be keen to sell, they are unlikely to stand in his way if Dybala’s head is turned by the wealth of interest in him from across the continent. With the wages the club can offer, they’d be one of the top candidates and a friendship with Pogba could prove influential.

Verdict

6/10 – It’s certainly one to keep an eye out for, but this move could be a long and complicated one. Dybala is unlikely to be keen to sit on the United bench behind Zlatan Ibrahimovic so may not want to head to Old Trafford until the Swede has retired or accepted that he won’t play week in, week out.
