Could Juventus defender Dani Alves be looking for a move to the Premier League?

According to reports surfacing from Brazil over the past day, Juventus defender Dani Alves could be open to listening to offers from the Premier League, should the Italian side not offer him a new deal.

UOL Esporte claim that the 34-year-old is looking for an extension to his current deal that runs out next season – but if an agreement can’t be made with the club, he will listen to offers from others.

Despite his age, Alves played an integral role in the Old Lady’s success this season, winning both the Serie A title and Coppa Italia before falling short in the Champions League final to Real Madrid.

The Boot Room looks at three potential destinations for the Brazilian should he decide to leave Italy…

Manchester United

One of the teams that The Sun claim are monitoring the situation over in Italy, Manchester United could be poised to make a move for the experienced defender should the time be right.

Despite the exceptional season that Antonio Valencia has had at Old Trafford at right-back, the addition of the Champions League next year leaves Jose Mourinho’s side requiring added strength in depth.

After falling short in their battle for the top four due to the large number of injuries picked up during the final months, bringing in a world-class addition to defence could prove poignant at the business end.

There’s no doubting the credentials of Alves, despite never playing in the Premier League, and his tendency to get forward into the final third means that he has a lot of assets to bring over to United.

Chelsea

Although Victor Moses has impressed in a right-wing back role at Stamford Bridge this season under Antonio Conte, there’s no denying that Alves is far more suited to that position than the Nigerian.

Vastly more experienced, and undeniably calmer and more composed in defence – you only have to look at Moses’ rashness in the FA Cup final – Alves is the perfect short-term fit for Conte’s formation.

The Brazilian’s age will always be an issue at 34 years old as it’s only likely that he will have one, possibly two more seasons left of football, but with the Blues back in the Champions League he’s still useful.

Playing him as a wing-back would allow him the relative freedom to influence much further up the pitch – something he relishes after five goals and six assists this season – and he can hurt teams.

Manchester City

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has made it no secret that he’s looking to re-enforce his defensive line this summer, with The Sun reporting that he’s looking at bringing in four wide men.

With reports in The Sun also now suggesting that a move for Tottenham’s Kyle Walker – a man believed to be his priority this summer – could be off the table, Alves could offer a familiar and alternative option.

Alves and Guardiola have history together too, linking up during their respective times spent at Barcelona, and the Spaniard would know exactly the type of player he would be getting in the right-back.

After letting Bacary Sagna, Gael Clichy and Pablo Zabaleta leave there will be a right full-back coming into the Etihad at some point, and there’s no better man to aid City in their challenge for big titles than Alves.
