Could Jack Hendry emulate Ryan Christie at Celtic?

Jack Hendry is one of the Celtic players who may have his sights set on a clean slate in the coming months as the Hoops prepare for a hugely significant summer.

The Bhoys will be under new management next season. And Hendry may be one of those the incoming boss will want to take a look at.

The 25-year-old endured a tough time at Celtic. But his loan spell in Belgium this season has seen Hendry get his career back on track.

And with Christopher Jullien battling long-term injury, Shane Duffy only on loan and Kristoffer Ajer surely likely to attract interest, there is every chance that Hendry will be given the opportunity to potentially silence his doubters.

Some Celtic fans may have their concerns about the centre-back coming back into the fold. But perhaps there is a chance that Hendry could go on and emulate Ryan Christie if given the chance.

It is remarkable to look back on how long it took Christie to become a key man at Parkhead. He has been on Celtic’s books for almost six seasons.

However, it was only in his fourth campaign with the club that the attacking midfielder reached double figures for appearances.

He spent around 18 months on loan at Aberdeen. And in truth, it appeared that he may be fighting a losing battle trying to earn a spot at Celtic upon his return from Pittodrie.

For example, the Daily Mail reported in August 2018 that he was being considered as a potential makeweight in a bid for Scott McKenna. In fact, it was claimed that both Christie and Jonny Hayes could join the Dons if a deal could be agreed.

Christie obviously stayed. And he has gone on to be one of Celtic’s best players over the last couple of years.

Admittedly, Hendry may have more work to do to silence his doubters.

But few could have imagined how crucial Christie would become. So perhaps the defender can set his sights on following in his footsteps next season.
