Could Jack Clarke be Tottenham Hotspur’s next Gareth Bale?

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly joining the pursuit of Leeds United’s talented winger Jack Clarke. Football.London is reporting the Leeds star is on the North London club’s radar of top young Championship talent.

Spurs need to bring in homegrown players to their squad and have therefore been scouring the Football League for an impressive enough option.

Clarke’s form at Leeds certainly deserves such attention. He has been sensational for Marcelo Bielsa’s side and looks set to play a pivotal role in the second half of the season.

Tall, strong, fast, direct and with a lethal strike or delivery, he is extremely similar to another young prodigy that Tottenham once plucked from the Football League.

That player was Gareth Bale. Signed as a left-back from then Championship side Southampton.

Bale, of course, went on to become one of Tottenham’s greatest players of the Premier League era. After initially struggling he found exceptional form in his last three seasons at the club.

It was that form which saw Real Madrid spend £85.3 million on the player in 2013, at the time making him the world’s most expensive player.

There is no reason why Clarke, with the right training and protection, could not live up to that sort of potential.

Leeds will hope it is at Elland Road. If Tottenham want it to be at their new stadium, they may have to pay a handsome ransom.
