Hull City have today enquired about current Fenerbahce and ex-West Ham striker Emmanuel Emenike about a potential loan move to the Premier League, according to Turkish-Football.com.
New manager Marco Silva allegedly wants to sign the Nigerian on loan until the end of the season in his effort to boost Hull’s firepower in front of goal, as his side have only mustered 20 goals so far this campaign.
Emenike has been in impressive form for the Turkish side this season, scoring seven and assisting four times to lead Fenerbahce to the Last-32 of the Europa League, helping them finish top of a group that contained Manchester United.
A move to Hull would see the Nigerian return to England’s top division after playing on-loan for the Hammers last year, and Emenike seems keen to set the record straight after a disappointing spell.
What would Emenike bring to Marco Silva’s side?
Hull City are a side in desperate need of goals as they look to secure Premier League survival for another year, and Emenike would certainly provide a boost in the attacking third for Silva’s side.
His sheer physical presence would prove to be a nuisance for Premier League defenders, whilst his acceleration is impressive for a man of his stature.
Despite struggling for Slaven Bilic’s West Ham side during his loan spell last year, only managing four goals in his 19 matches, Emenike will be riding high with confidence after an inspired start to the season in Turkey and will look to continue his rich vein of form over in England.
He’s not short on the international experience side of things either, winning the African Cup of Nations last year with Nigeria and scoring nine times in 37 appearances for his country, and he could prove to be a useful asset for a Hull side with the second-worst record in front of goal this season.
Is a move to the KCOM likely?
The 29-year-old is reportedly keen on a move back to the Premier League after his underwhelming spell at West Ham last season, and it seems that Hull are getting closer to reaching a deal – yet this all hinges on whether the two clubs can come to an agreement what type of deal, with Advocaat adamant that he’ll only let Emenike leave if it’s a permanent move.
According to a source close to Fenerbahce, manager Dick Advocaat has already told the Nigerian international that he’s free to leave the club in January as a result of a fall out, so it does only seem a matter of time before Emenike will be playing Premier League football once again.
Verdict
8/10 – Silva has already put his own stamp on this Hull side after the signings of Evandro and Oumar Niasse last week, and it would be hard to bet against Emenike becoming the Tigers’ third arrival of the transfer window before the current week is over.
