Bleacher Report report that Chelsea, Manchester United and Arsenal are monitoring the situation of Everton midfielder Idrissa Gueye as they consider launching bids as all three clubs look to strengthen their midfields with added bite and steel in the shape of the Senegal international.
Since joining from Aston Villa last summer for a fee worth just over £7 million, Gueye has put his name on the map with a series of commanding midfield performances, which have drawn comparisons with Chelsea star N’Golo Kante for his style and energy in breaking up play.
What would he offer Antonio Conte, Arsene Wenger or Jose Mourinho?
The Senegal international would add energy and steel to the heart of any midfield, with his impressive engine making the heartbeat of both Everton last season and Aston Villa before that.
Excellent at breaking up play and a great tackler, Gueye can add a tough enforcer to any of these midfields, something that both United and Arsenal have been crying out for at times over the past few seasons.
However, he won’t offer much going forward, which may put such big clubs off him, as they tend to look for all round players capable of adding quality in every respect. With just one goal and two assists from 33 games, he would have to step up his game in the same way that N’Golo Kante has at Chelsea with his increasingly common bursts forward at Stamford Bridge.
Is a move likely?
Everton will do all they can to ensure that it isn’t. With it looking increasingly likely that both Romelu Lukaku and Ross Barkley will make an exit from Goodison Park this summer, it would be a huge blow to the club if they were also to lose their holding midfielder.
Their new ownership with greater financial backing means that there is no longer any obligation on the club to sell, and the symbolic message of selling the 27-year-old would be a huge embarrassment for a supposedly ambitious club which is claiming to take steps forward to take it to the next level.
