Could Declan Rice motivate West Ham board to extend David Moyes’s contract?

West Ham United’s board are being encouraged by some of the squad to hand David Moyes a new contract, according to a report from The Telegraph.

The Hammers are unbeaten in their last four. Along the way, they have thrashed Wolves and Leicester and drawn with Tottenham and Manchester City.

With Moyes also keeping the club up last season, it appears that the players want to see the boss rewarded with fresh terms, with his current contract set to expire next summer.

Interestingly, The Telegraph adds that Moyes is hugely popular with the likes of Michail Antonio and Declan Rice.

And it is perhaps the presence of the latter name that should motivate the Hammers hierarchy to change their current stance to hold off talks until the new year at the earliest.

Moyes is not the only figure to be linked with contract talks in recent times. According to the Daily Star at the weekend, West Ham want to tie Rice down.

Rice, of course, was heavily linked with Chelsea over the summer. So it would be a big statement if they could now agree a new deal with the midfielder.

Rice is a talisman for the Hammers. And the board are clearly willing to go to great lengths to keep him with the report suggesting that they are prepared to double his £60,000-a-week wages.

Agreeing a new deal with Moyes therefore, would surely boost their chances of holding onto Rice.

Of course, West Ham should not look to keep Moyes just because of his relationship with the 21-year-old.

But Moyes is getting results on the pitch. So if extending his contract is more likely to get Rice to follow suit, it is surely a no-brainer.
