Tottenham Hotspur must get their recruitment right if they are to break back into the top four come the end of the 2020/21 season.
The north Londoners endured a rollercoaster 2019/20, eventually finishing sixth after replacing Mauricio Pochettino with Jose Mourinho.
One of the biggest issues last term was conceding too many chances and ultimately, goals.
A once solid and stubborn backline lost its way somewhat, with Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen both seemingly past their primes.
Vertonghen has now departed the club and he will need replacing, and there’s a man over in the Bundesliga who could be perfect.
David Alaba’s future at Bayern Munich is said to be in some doubt (Goal), with the player’s contract set to expire next summer, so surely Spurs ought to test the waters.
TBR’s View – Linked with Mourinho before
Alaba was said to be on Mourinho’s radar while at Manchester United (Mirror 2016), but a move then was perhaps somewhat unrealistic.
Now though, there could be a chance and if there really is a hint the Austria international could leave then Spurs should be all over it.
The 28-year-old is a top-class player who is extremely versatile. He played the majority of games for Bayern as a centre-half in 2019/20, but is a left-back by trade.
With Tottenham no stranger to playing three-at-the-back, a left centre-back role could suit Alaba perfectly.
The man has won titles galore with the Bavarian giants, and that kind of experience and mentality could be highly beneficial for the dressing room.
