Kilmarnock are reportedly interested in signing Celtic outcast Jack Hendry before September 2 but face competition from Scottish Premiership rivals Motherwell – but could Celtic use Killie’s interest to their advantage?
The Daily Record claim both Killie and Motherwell want to sign 24-year-old Hendry, who has managed just 26 appearances for the Scottish champions since moving to Glasgow in January 2018 from Dundee.
Hendry has fallen down the pecking order under Neil Lennon, with the signing of Christoper Jullien all but ending his chances of breaking back into the side. Kris Ajer, Jozo Simunovic, Hatem Abd Elhamed and Nir Bitton are also preferred.
Now, Killie want to save him from his Celtic nightmare and have made their interest to Celtic known. It could see the Scottish champions take advantage, and look to include Greg Taylor in any deal for Scotland international Hendry.
The Record claimed earlier this week that Celtic want to sign 21-year-old Taylor. Lennon is said to be a keen admirer of the lft-back, who has already clocked up 131 appearances for Killie despite his age after breaking into the side under Steve Clarke.
Celtic have sold Kieran Tierney to Arsenal for £25million, bringing in Boli Bolingoli as his replacement. But Lennon left Bolingoli out of the side that were knocked out of the Champions League by CFR Cluj.
Callum McGregor was used at left-back, which has seen Lennon come in for criticism. Many are concerned that Lennon does not trust new signing Bolingoli, despite splashing out £3million to land the left-sided defender form Rapid Vienna.
However, Celtic an finally end their left-back concerns by using Hendry in a deal to bring Taylor to Parkhead this summer, with Killie keen to sign the colossal centre-back. It remains to be seen if Hendry will be used in a move for Taylor.
