Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp would help turn Kylian Mbappe into a “king” at Anfield, France icon Willy Sagnol has told Bild.

Mbappe has been superb for Paris Saint-Germain since his €180million (£166million) move from Monaco in 2017, having registered 90 goals and 49 assists in just 120 competitive appearances for the French capital club.

Transfer speculation is never far away from Mbappe, with Liverpool having been linked with him on numerous occasions and Real Madrid also said to be interested in the 2018 World Cup winner’s services (Liverpool Echo).

Sagnol, who helped France reach the 2006 World Cup, believes the 21-year-old would reach superstar levels were he to link up with Klopp.

“This club [Liverpool] has a big advantage, as with Jurgen Klopp you have a coach with whom every player in the world would like to work,” the five-time Bundesliga champion told Bild.

“Kylian Mbappe would have to adjust under him as he demands a lot of defensive work from his strikers, which Mbappe is not good at yet.

“But he can learn that, especially from a guy like Klopp. No question, Mbappe could become a king with Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool.”

Liverpool are a world-class club boasting a world-class squad, which Mbappe would complement nicely – though the numbers be involved in such a move would most likely be eye-watering.

This summer, in particular, is expected to be tough for the whole football industry in wake of the global health crisis, so a player like Mbappe, who Metro claims would cost around £150million, is probably not going to be on anyone’s radar.

In future, who knows? Once things return to normal, a player like Mbappe would be more than worthy of joining the best club side in world football under one of the best managers in world football.
