‘Could be our only option’: Some Everton fans think there’s just one way to strengthen squad sufficiently

A number of Everton fans have reacted to Richarlison’s interview with Globo Esporte in which he suggested he was open to a move from Goodison Park “if a good proposal arrives”.

Indeed, some Toffees supporters think it could end up being the best – or even the only – option to bring enough money in to strengthen the team sufficiently.

Richarlison became Marco Silva’s first signing at Everton when joining from Watford in a reported £40million deal (Liverpool Echo) towards the end of July 2018, reuniting the two after their prior stint working together down south.

Since then, the 23-year-old has become an essential player for Everton under Silva and successor Carlo Ancelotti, with 29 goals and six assists from 79 appearances, as well as becoming a regular for Brazil and helping them win the Copa America.

Although he is contracted to Everton until 2024, a player of Richarlison’s quality is likely to be on the radar of top teams, and speaking to Globo Esporte, he gave an honest outlook in terms of his future on Merseyside.

“Everything has been talked about,” he said. “He’s already told me he’s counting on me for another season.

“He asked me to hold on a little.  But it all depends. If a good proposal arrives, we sit down and talk. It’s part of football.

“We are still talking about these details, sorting it out. He’s bringing in new players. And then let’s sit down and talk. But I think I can hold on for another season.”

With Everton having limped to a 12th-placed Premier League finish last season, Ancelotti has a lot of work to do this summer to bolster his ranks sufficiently.

And while virtually no Toffees fans want to see him go, some are realistic about him potentially being tempted by sides already competing for silverware, not to mention the sizeable fee he’d bring in if sold:
