A number of Tottenham Hotspur fans have taken to Twitter to praise Marcel Lavinier’s inclusion in Spurs first-team training ahead of their Europa League clash on Thursday.

The 20-year-old defender was included in Jose Mourinho’s 25-man squad for the knockout stages of the competition.

Lavinier came through the ranks at Chelsea, winning the Under-18 Premier League southern division and national title, the FA Youth Cup and the inaugural Under-18 Premier League Cup in 2017-18.

The versatile player – who can play across the defence and even in midfield – was released by the West Londoners last year and linked up with Spurs in October 2020 after a trial.

Currently with Tottenham’s Under-23s, Lavinier took part in Wednesday’s training session with the senior team ahead of their last-32 first leg against Wolfsberger along with fellow academy gems Dane Scarlett, Jamie Bowden and Dennis Cirkin.

And all four will be making the trip to Budapest, as confirmed by Tottenham’s Twitter page:
