'Could be a Doucoure-like figure': Some Everton fans want 'brilliant' 6ft 3in teenager called up
Everton fans have praised Tyler Onyango for his impressive display for the Toffees Under-23s on Monday night.
And with Abdoulaye Doucoure set for a spell on the sidelines, some supporters think Rafael Benitez should call Onyango up.
The 18-year-old, who joined Everton aged eight, is a “skilful, athletic midfielder” who “reads the game well and boasts impressive stamina”.
Onyango was promoted to the Blues’ Under-23 set-up during the 2019-20 campaign after shining for the Under-18s.
He made his senior debut in January this year, coming off the bench in the FA Cup fourth-round victory over Sheffield Wednesday.
However, the 6ft 3in talent sustained a serious ankle injury in an FA Youth Cup tie back in April.
Onyango returned to full training a fortnight ago following six months of rehabilitation.
And he finally made his return to action in the Everton Under-23s’ Premier League 2 victory over Leeds United on Monday.
Onyango clocked up 80 minutes as David Unsworth’s Toffees came from two goals down to win 4-2 at Southport FC.
Meanwhile, Doucoure is expected to be out for a lengthy spell due to a stress response in his foot.
He suffered the injury against West Ham and, while he won’t require an operation, it’s still a huge blow for Benitez.
In Doucoure’s absence, some Everton fans think Onyango should be called up to the senior squad as cover:
Be a massive boost of Everton can get Tyler Onyango back fit and playing for Xmas or so.

You’re a fan aren’t you mate, we’ve spoke about him a few times.

Good to see him back, give him a few weeks to find his feet with the u23 side again, then get him involved in first team training
Massive mate think under Rafa he (in time) could be a Doucoure like figure for us, especially being so short in midfield he could play a part.

Yep, especially seeing as there isn’t really anyone else who jumps out able to replace doucoure

Him being first team capable allows us to hopefully shift one of the CM’s in Jan
Defo mate. Really like what I’ve seen of him. Still very young and had a long time out so need to be patient.
