Could a Barcelona move for Tottenham’s Dele Alli really happen this summer?

Dele Alli has a huge future ahead of him and he is already attracting interest from Europe’s elite. Barcelona are keen to rebuild in order to recover after their disappointing La Liga campaign.

Although they have yet to secure their top targets, there is time left for them and two of their key players want the club to sign Alli at all costs. Spanish outlet Diario Gol suggest that Neymar and Lionel Messi both agree that Los Cules should go all out to sign the England international.

The La Liga side need to made additions this summer the freshen up the squad and Dele Alli could be the statement signing that they need. They need more energy in the middle of the park and it speaks volumes that the dressing room want Alli. At other clubs, an article like this wouldn’t mean a lot, but Messi and Neymar have a lot of power at the Nou Camp. It will be interesting to see if this develops into firm interest, as it could be difficult for Tottenham to resist.

Would this be the right time for Alli to move?

Alli has the potential to be the best English player that we have produced for some time and it seems inevitable that he will end up at one of Europe’s biggest clubs. That said, it would be a risk for him to make the move this summer, even though it would be difficult to turn Barcelona down.

The World Cup is at the end of this season and the midfielder will want to go to Russia at his best. A move to a foreign country could have a damaging effect on his football. He has shown great adaptability during his career to date and it could be that he thrives straight away, but it would be a risk and one he doesn’t need to take.

It is unlikely that he remains at Tottenham for the rest of the career, but there is no need to seek a move yet. They are progressing as a club and will be in the Champions League again this season. During the last campaign, they did poorly in Europe and they will want to address that this year.

Alli needs to prove that he is now only among the Premier League’s best players, but that he is one of the best on the continent too. A strong showing in Europe’s elite competition is needed before he can go to a club like Barcelona with confidence.

Will Barcelona make a move this summer?

It does seem that this article doesn’t really tell us a lot. Although it is interesting that Messi and Neymar see Alli as a good fit for Barcelona, there is no evidence that Los Cules are preparing a move. The English midfielder would be a good fit for Spanish football and provide the energy that the Barcelona team currently lacks.

However, it is a move unlikely to happen this summer. His value will continue to rise and buying clubs will be aware of that, but so will Tottenham. A strong Champions League and World Cup will make the midfielder one of the hottest properties in football. Next summer, it could become impossible for Spurs to keep hold of him if he continues on this upwards trajectory.
