Could 2019 be when Adam Lewis finally makes Liverpool breakthrough?

The fixtures are coming thick and fast for Liverpool and they will need all of their available squad depth to see out a serious title challenge. That could mean calling upon youngsters such as Adam Lewis, who looks set to become the latest local lad to break into Jurgen Klopp’s team.

The 19-year-old has already joined the first team for training and looks to be third in the pecking order for the left-back slot, in behind Andy Robertson and Alberto Moreno.

However, some reports, such as from MARCA, claim that the Spaniard could depart Merseyside as early as this month, opening the door to Lewis to step up and become the club’s second choice.

That would be a superb opportunity for Lewis, who would have to step up in order to justify the role and convince Klopp that he does not need to move in the January or summer transfer window for a replacement.

Given his work rate and style of play which has led him to captain the under 23s side, despite being years younger than many of his team-mates, he is on the right track to do just that.

Seeing out the challenge and stepping up when given the opportunity will decide if Lewis can live up to the hype as the next Trent Alexander-Arnold, or if he will be consigned to the pile of players who nearly made it but failed to adapt to Premier League football.
