Carlos Corberán has told The Guardian that he cannot agree with the claim Marcelo Bielsa made back in 2020 suggesting that the Leeds United boss valued the Spaniard’s opinion more than his own.
Corberan’s stock is certainly growing. He has done a brilliant job with Huddersfield Town, leading the Terriers into the Championship promotion picture.

His success is not going unnoticed, it seems. Recent reports claimed that Leeds have Corberan on their radar as they consider the possibility of needing to replace Bielsa at the end of the season.
Corberan spent some time as under-23 coach at Elland Road. But the arrival of Bielsa in 2018 saw the 38-year-old promoted to also work with the first-team.

He ultimately stayed until promotion was secured before taking the Huddersfield job. And during his time working with Bielsa, the Leeds boss outlined just how much he valued Corberan.
Interestingly, Corberan insisted that that claim from Bielsa may be the one thing that divides the two managers.
“It is one of the few things – or maybe the only thing – that I don’t agree with him on. I cannot accept these types of words. It is not true,” he told The Guardian.
Corberan may be the safest bet should Leeds need to replace Bielsa this summer
Corberan is not the most exciting name linked with the Leeds post. Reports claimed that they also want Jesse Marsch and Ernesto Valverde.
Both Marsch and Valverde have big reputations. However, neither has managed in the Premier League just yet.
Corberan has not either. And his overall CV is the most underwhelming of the three names. But he is a name the large majority of the squad know. And he has clearly been heavily influenced by Bielsa.
Former Leeds prospect Romario Vieira once said that he will be surprised if he is not the ‘next Bielsa or Guardiola’. And he described him as ‘so talented’.
When the time comes, Leeds need to find someone who does not represent a radical change from Bielsa. But it surely also needs to be someone with their own ideas to help take the side even further forward.
For some, Corberan may not be that man. But he certainly ticks a fair number of boxes.
