Cooper posts Instagram reaction to Illan Meslier performance for Leeds
Liam Cooper has lauded Illan Meslier on Instagram in reaction to his performance as Leeds United beat Wolves in their Premier League opener on Saturday.
Jesse Marsch’s men have their first victory of the campaign. Leeds came from behind to beat Bruno Lage’s side at Elland Road.
A number of players produced big performances. Brenden Aaronson was arguably the star of the show. Tyler Adams, Marc Roca and Rasmus Kristensen also had bright moments on their debuts.
Meanwhile, Jack Harrison was unbelievably impressive at times. But there was also a huge performance from Meslier between the sticks.
The Frenchman made a number of outstanding saves from the likes of Hwang Hee-chan and Leander Dendoncker. It appeared that the 22-year-old was back to his best after a difficult campaign last year.
That display will have done Meslier’s confidence the world of good. He shone in pre-season, particularly in the loss to Aston Villa. And he stepped up again when Leeds needed him on Saturday.
Unsurprisingly, Meslier wanted to take to Instagram to celebrate the win. And amongst those to reply was Cooper. The defender was missing the game through injury. But he was full of praise for his teammate’s display…

Leeds need to improve defensively. Wolves created a number of big chances. And there were times when the visitors looked extremely dangerous on the counter.
Leeds will know that on another day, the scoreline could have been quite different. Having said that, the Whites had big opportunities of their own.
If Meslier’s performance is a sign of what is to come, Leeds surely stand a very good chance of being in nothing like the same trouble as last season.
