Conte responds when asked if 27-year-old Tottenham player has injury
Antonio Conte has confirmed that Eric Dier missed Tottenham Hotspur’s win over Morecambe in the FA Cup due to injury, but suggested – in comments reported by Football London – that he hoped that the problem was not serious.
Dier had missed Spurs’ Carabao Cup tie with Chelsea during the week due to illness. However, the Italian confirmed ahead of their third round tie that he was expected to be fit for the clash.
Unfortunately, when the team was announced for the game against the League One side, Dier was nowhere to be seen.
Ultimately, it proved to be an eventful day for Tottenham. They won 3-1 after going a goal down during the first-half.
Afterwards, Conte was asked whether Dier and Sergio Reguilón were absent from the Tottenham win due to injury.
“Eric Dier yeah, but I hope that’s nothing serious. I hope so,” he said, as reported by Football London. “About Sergio Reguilon, he was a bit tired and we preferred to keep him out of the game.”
Tottenham need Eric Dier back as soon as possible with massive games ahead
It would be a blow for Tottenham to be without Dier for any lengthy period. He has started all of their Premier League games so far this season. And he appears to be finding some real form.
Conte suggested that Dier has the potential to be one of the world’s best in the middle of the back three. And the early signs suggest that the Tottenham boss may be onto something – even if Dier does not fully live up to the full billing.
The good news is Conte is not convinced that Dier will be out for long. With two games against Chelsea and a North London Derby amongst those fixtures ahead before the end of the month, it would be a big boost to have the defender back as soon as possible.
