Tottenham manager Antonio Conte was delighted with his side’s showing at Brighton tonight and singled out two players for praise.

The Spurs boss made a couple of changes to both personnel and formation and in the end, his side had enough in the tank to keep Brighton out and pick up a big three points. It was, of course, a huge week for Spurs emotionally, following the death of Gian Piero Ventrone.

Of the changes Conte made, Yves Bissouma was among them. And speaking after the game, the Italian admitted he was delighted with the reaction from both Bissouma and Mat Doherty.

“I prefer in this game to start with two strikers because in this moment we have injuries. I am happy because I had a good response from Matt Doherty, Yves Bissouma played from the start, a lot of positive things,” Conte told the BBC after the game.

Doherty will be hoping to keep his place in the starting XI going forward now. With Emerson Royal out suspended, there is a golden opportunity for the Irishman to nail down his slot. Bissouma, meanwhile, can be pleased with a solid night’s work against his former club at the AMEX.

TBR’s View: Bissouma And Doherty Great For Tottenham

This is what having a big and quality squad is all about and Tottenham fans got a glimpse of that tonight.

Doherty was fine on his return and should be good enough to keep Royal out in the longer term. Bissouma, on the other hand, faces a tougher task given Conte’s preferred formation but he was good as well.

All in all, it was a solid night’s work for Tottenham at Brighton. The win was massive, and Conte was rightfully happy with the players who came into the fold tonight.
