Report: Conte impressed with two youngsters' 'tactical intelligence' at Spurs, both will feature this season

Antonio Conte is known for his big demands at Tottenham and with that, certain young players could find it difficult to break in.

We’ve seen with Djed Spence how patience will be needed. Conte has spoken of Spence being an investment for the future and it’s a case of buckling down and working hard for the summer signing.

However, that’s not the case with all of Tottenham’s young players. The likes of Ryan Sessegnon have featured heavily under Conte and it’s well known the Italian is a big fan of Oliver Skipp too. With that, Football London has reported today how rather than it just being their talent, it is their tactical intelligence that has caught Conte’s eye the most.

With that, it appears both Skipp and Sessegnon will continue to feature for Conte’s Spurs this season. For Spence, it very much looks like he’ll need to be patient and simply take his chances when they come along. He did play for the England under-21s last night, where he impressed down the right for Lee Carsley’s side in Italy.

Tottenham return to action next weekend when they take on north London rivals and table toppers, Arsenal.

TBR’s View: Conte Has High Demands For All

The old adage of if you’re good enough you’re old enough does ring true at times but with Conte, it seems being good has whole different levels of meaning to it.

Yes, you need talent with the ball. But it’s clear that Conte wants more from his players and with that it means a tactical understanding a commitment to hone that side of the game.

Skipp and Sessegnon have clearly grasped this from Conte. And while there’s no indication Spence is struggling with it, it will be interesting to see just how he kicks on in the next 12 months.
