Arsenal v Tottenham: Why Antonio Conte is seriously frustrated by Mikel Arteta's side
It’s a weekend of derby games this week and none come much bigger than the North London clash between Arsenal and Tottenham.
The Gunners have a chance to cement themselves at the top of the table. Tottenham, meanwhile, want to fire themselves back into top four contention and at the same time, ruin the good feeling at The Emirates.
Of course, seeing Arsenal do so well is hard for Spurs fans, coaches, and players. Indeed, Antonio Conte is said to be hugely frustrated at seeing the differences. Writing in his Reading the Game column, The Independent’s Miguel Delaney claims that Conte feel his Spurs side could be where Arsenal are right now.
“Elsewhere at Tottenham, and ahead of another big game, one of the reasons that Antonio Conte has been so aggravated is because he feels the club could have been much closer to a title challenge this season. They could have been in Arsenal’s situation,” Delaney wrote.
“That has been frustrating for the Italian but the enticing element is that he can start to divert it. It’s still very early in a season that may yet see the ructions of the World Cup. Conte knows a result is required here to kick-start things. It could even be the start of Spurs’ own run. On the other side, how satisfying would be it for Arsenal to strengthen their own position while further weakening their great rivals. It makes this yet another north London derby with much more on it than just the three points.”
TBR’s View: Tottenham need to get their recruitment right to match Arsenal
Arteta has had a bit longer at it than Conte but there is no doubting that Arsenal have got their recruitment spot on.
Tottenham have huffed and puffed in the market a bit more. Yes, they’ve landed some good players. But they’ve not signed difference makers like Jesus, Zinchenko, or Ramsdale.
Conte is right to be frustrated. He should be getting better results. But he has had to sit back and watch Edu do so well in the market, while Paratici always seems very last minute.
