Conte could reportedly land exciting RB likened to Hakimi for less than £30m, big upgrade - TBR View

Tottenham Hotspur boss Antonio Conte continues to have problems at right wing-back.

Matt Doherty and Emerson Royal have their moments, but overall, the Spurs manager needs more quality.

Then you’ve got Djed Spence, who’s a very talented prospect.

However, it looks as though he’ll need to develop more before Conte deems him Premier League-ready.

With the January transfer window on the horizon, chances are Tottenham will look to bolster that flank.

And according to reports from Italy, there’s a very exciting player who Conte has his eye on.

Journalist Rudy Galetti has written that Tottenham are keeping tabs on Inter Milan ace Denzel Dumfries.

The report – as covered by Sport Witness – claims Conte has requested for Spurs to try for the 26-year-old.

Apparently, Emerson doesn’t convince the Tottenham boss, who is now looking for alternatives.

And Inter Milan are reportedly willing to do business for Dumfries starting at €30m (£26m).

‘Extremely active down the right-hand side’

Dumfries would be an exciting option for Tottenham, as he’s a very attacking full-back in the mould of Achraf Hakimi.

Cult of Calcio published an in-depth analysis piece on the player last season, which suggests he’s just right for Conte.

‘Standing at 189cm (6ft 2in) tall and weighing in at 80kg, the Nerazzurri’s new right wing-back is extremely active down the right hand side, constantly charging up and down the pitch – the style we all got used to seeing Hakimi play for Inter,’ they wrote.

‘Another similarity between Inter’s latest signing and Hakimi is that he maintains this wide position and rarely moves into the central zones inside his defensive half, except when tracking his runner or covering for the right center-back, suggesting his role as an out-and-out wing-back.

‘When receiving the ball, Dumfries is often positioned higher than the opposite wing-back, indicating he is more involved in the team’s build-up play.

‘Furthermore, when the ball is on the other side of the pitch, the Dutchman moves into extremely high areas of the pitch, playing almost like a natural winger, often attacking in and around the penalty box.

‘When looking at the defensive aspect of his game, Dumfries utilizes his strength, pace and athleticism to dispossess opposing attackers.

‘Due to his pace and athletic frame, he is able to quickly close down and block off the passing lanes, subsequently increasing his chances of successfully dispossessing the opposition player.’
