Dharmesh Sheth has told Sky Sports News that Arsenal have made it clear that they want to sign Aaron Ramsdale, although they are yet to advance talks with Sheffield United.

Interest obvious

Ramsdale appears to be right near the top of Arsenal’s wishlist, as they try to land a new goalkeeper this summer.

The 23-year-old, who was part of England’s Euro 2020 squad, is also aware of the Gunners’ interest.

However, all moves have been made via Ramsdale’s agents so far, rather than between the two clubs.

“Arsenal are in the market for a goalkeeper, make no mistake about it,” Sheth said.

“Arsenal are interested in the Sheffield United and England goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale.

“Now there’s not been any direct contact between Arsenal and Sheffield United as far as we are aware, but there has been initial contact via intermediaries.

“The interest from Arsenal has been made clear to Sheffield United without it being club to club.

“That will depend on transfer fee, as he would command quite a big transfer fee.”

Still some negotiations to do?

Sheth’s words suggest that any move for Ramsdale is not anywhere near advanced yet.

Indeed, if Arsenal were to discuss the deal with Sheffield United they may find some reluctance to sell.

The Sheffield Star have suggested that the Blades are under no pressure to cash in on their stopper, despite their relegation last term, with the club valuing him at £40 million.

If Ramsdale was to join Arsenal he would not be assured of a first-team place, but he could put real pressure on Bernd Leno’s first-team place at the Emirates Stadium.
