Former Liverpool academy prospect Conor Masterson has told Goal that Daniel Sturridge was the one player during his time at Anfield that left him in awe.
Masterson rose through the youth ranks at Liverpool but signed for Queens Park Rangers on a free transfer in the summer of 2019.
He departed Merseyside having failed to make a first-team appearance, although he was an unused substitute on two occasions.
Masterson has now played 17 times for QPR, including twice this season in Mark Warburton’s team.

The defender has been discussing training with Liverpool and cited two players, with one, in particular, earning special praise.
He told Goal: “Daniel Sturridge, man. He was just a joke, he ripped everyone apart.
“Coutinho was good, but Sturridge was on another level. He was so sharp, he had pace, he could finish, he had the skill, he could do everything. He stood out a mile to me.”
Sturridge is currently without a club having left Turkish outfit Trabzonspor in March.
At 31 he does perhaps have something left to offer and it does seem somewhat strange that a club hasn’t taken a chance on him.
TBR View – Will Sturridge go down as one who could have done so much more?
When you play for Manchester City, Chelsea and Liverpool during your career it’s unlikely it’d be considered a waste.
But for several injuries that blighted his progress, the striker could have done so much more with his career.
At Liverpool he played 160 times, scoring 68 goals and registering 26 assists.

His last act at Anfield was to be an unused substitute for the Champions League Final of 2019 – which Liverpool won 2-0 against Tottenham.
It was to be his only trophy at Anfield and given that he proved a decent player for the club, there’s perhaps a sense that he should have won more during his time on Merseyside.
