There are conflicting reports emerging regarding RB Leipzig defender Dayot Upamecano this week, a player who has interested several Premier League clubs this season including Arsenal.
The Gunners, as reported by France Football, have been one of the frontrunners in the hunt for the Frenchman, whose current contract at Leipzig expires in 2021.
Which is why reports from German publication SportBild would have been so welcome for Arsenal fans this week.
The report claimed Leipzig had slashed Upamecano’s valuation in half, from his €60 million (£52.5m) release clause to €40 million (£35m). At that price, bringing in Upamecano seems an absolute no-brainer for Arsenal.

However, whilst that news had Arsenal fans excited regarding a potential swoop for the powerhouse defender, it seems it might be misplaced.
Sky Sports have an entirely different report. They claim that Upamecano ‘has agreed’ a new contract at Leipzig.
It is hard to know what to take from these two reports, with Bild and Sky having opposite beliefs regarding Upamecano’s future.
But the general rumbling is that Upamecano is set to sign a new deal and remain at Leipzig for the time being.
However, if there is a chance the 21-year-old is available at just £35 million, then the Gunners should try and raise that money anyway they can to secure his services.
