League Two side Notts County have confirmed on their official website that teenage striker Kion Etete has left the club to join Tottenham Hotspur this summer, in what is Spurs’ first deal of the window.
Etete, 17, is one of England’s hottest prospects after coming through the ranks at Notts County to make his senior debut. Wearing the number 37 shirt, he made six senior appearances for the fourth-tier club.
The striker went on a trial at Tottenham earlier this season, playing one game for the north Londoners’ Under-18 side. He scored two goals in a 5-3 win over London rivals West Ham United.
It has seen Spurs opt to sign Etete this summer, with his previous Notts County contract set to expire at the end of June. It is likely that Etete will join Spurs’ Under-18 side, but could also feature in the reserves.
TBR’s view
Etete’s breakthrough into the Notts County side shows that he has enormous potential, and Spurs have done well to move for the striker before anyone else.
Notts County’s academy is renowned for bringing through excellent talent. Dongda He joined Wolverhampton Wanderers, while Jack Bearne has moved to Liverpool.
Etete has plenty of competition ahead of him but a couple of years in the club’s academy and reserve side will hopefully maximise that potential.
