Confirmed Arsenal line-up to play Tottenham: Granit Xhaka starts
Arsenal will hope to make it three wins on the spin this afternoon and Switzerland midfield Granit Xhaka has been named in today’s team to play Tottenham
The Gunners are in decent form. After a shaky start they have won two on the spin in the Premier League and will hope to further climb the table today.
Arteta has been questioned at periods during his tenure as manager. Winning games of today’s magnitude should at least buy him some time and ease the pressure.
Tottenham started the campaign well. They have been beaten 3-0 in each of their last two games, however, to Crystal Palace and Chelsea.
Arsenal team to play Tottenham: Ramsdale; Tomiyasu, White, Gabriel, Tierney; Xhaka, Partey; Saka, Odegaard, Smith Rowe; Aubameyang
Subs: Leno, Holding, Cedric, Taveres, Lokonga, Maitland-Niles, Martinelli, Pepe, Lacazette
Xhaka’s inclusion could start some debate. He remains a player who continues to divide the fan base at the Emirates Stadium.
It seemed for all the world as though the club would offload him in the summer. Jose Mourinho was desperate to take him to Roma, although he eventually penned a new deal with Arsenal.
Elsewhere there are no real surprises and now supporters face an anxious wait until kick-off.
What have supporters said about the Arsenal team selection?
It seems most are pretty happy, although some do have their reservations regarding Xhaka in midfield.
The £100,000-a-week player is popular with some of the fan base but not so with others and he will hope to prove a point today.
Arsenal have to start winning games on a regular basis and after two on the spin, they must continue the momentum.
Now could be a great time to play Tottenham and Arteta claiming three points today would represent a big step in the right direction.
