Bayer Leverkusen have officially signed Kerem Demirbay from Hoffenheim.

Goal report that the attacking midfielder has signed a five-year deal with the Champions League-chasers, and will join up with his new teammates once the current season concludes.

Demirbay has scored four goals for Hoffenheim this term and made eight assists.

He remains in the Bundesliga, when a move to elsewhere in Europe had been mooted.

Liverpool and Arsenal were both recently credited with an interest in the player (Bild).

The Gunners may have missed out on a star in Demirbay, but the transfer could actually now make a move for Kai Havertz more likely.

TBR’s view

Before being linked with potential Aaron Ramsey replacement Demirbay, Arsenal had been reported by Calciomercato to be keen on Havertz, who is undoubtedly one of the best young prospects in German football.

In 40 appearances so far this term, the 19-year-old has scored 18 goals and made seven assists.

The technically gifted attacking midfielder is highly promising, and the addition of Demirbay by Leverkusen may suggest they are planning to cash in on the starlet as the pair play in similar positions.

Arsenal must win the Europa League to ensure they reap the financial benefits of Champions League football next term, as Havertz would not come cheap.

With Ramsey moving on and Demirbay now out of the question, Havertz is surely the man they should be trying to get this summer.
