‘Concerning’: Two Arsenal players who are a big worry for Mikel Arteta right now

Arsenal lost to West Ham last night as their forwards once again drew a blank to allow the Hammers to take all three points.

Arsenal’s need for a different type of striker and maybe a ‘proper’ number nine has been widely discussed going into the January. The Gunners are being linked with moves for Ivan Toney, while Dusan Vlahovic remains a player of interest as well.

This season, the trio of Bukayo Saka, Gabi Martinelli and Gabriel Jesus have not quite hit the heights of last term. Indeed, Martinelli only has four goals and has dropped off in worrying fashion.

Last night was a prime example of Arsenal maybe needing that striker, as Jesus headed over a golden chance to get them back into the game.

And speaking about Arsenal’s attacking woes, Robbie Mustoe has suggested the form of Jesus and Martinelli is a big worry.

Pundit concerned by Jesus and Martinelli’s form for Arsenal

Speaking on NBC Sports, former Premier League midfielder Mustoe has admitted his concern over Jesus and Martinelli.

“It’s a little concerning that the likes of Jesus and Martinelli have just gone off the boil a little bit. Now I said today that right now that’s kind of been covered up or counted by midfield players like Odegaard and Trossard’s got three I think it is, I think Declan Rice has got three, Odegaard’s got four,” Mustoe said.

“They’ve got good numbers in there to help the production from the front three. This was a tough game and it’s not the game to really go into that and say, look they need another striker or is it? When you saw Gabriel Jesus head it over from six, seven yards out, is it going to be the reason why they might not win it if they’ve not got [a striker].

“Last year, Saka and Martinelli scored a ton of goals, Martinelli’s gone off it a little bit and Jesus doesn’t look like he’s going to get a big number.”

Arsenal need more

The Gunners simply have to get more from some of their best players right now. As Mustoe says here, the drop in form of Martinelli is a big concern really.

He looks nowhere near the level he was last season and it’s a worrying sign for the club.

As for Jesus, well, the argument over whether or not he’ll ever be a top goal-getter continue and as it stands, he looks like he’ll never be that guy.

There was a reason Man City sold him and Arsenal fans are probably starting to realise that right now.
