A number of Newcastle United fans have welcomed speculation linking the club with Antero Henrique.

French outlet Footmercato has claimed that representatives of the Saudi-led consortium have spoken with the former Paris Saint-Germain director.

They spoke to Henrique about their hopes of building a team at Newcastle that can go on to compete for the Premier League title, added the report.

Meanwhile, The Mirror has claimed that the Magpies are after a “powerful, well-connected sporting director”.

Henrique is “being interviewed” for the role as well as Ralf Rangnick, added the outlet.

Henrique is well known for his great work at PSG – he brought Kylian Mbappe to the club – and at Porto.

The 51-year-old brought the likes of Falcao, James Rodriguez, Alex Sandro, and Pepe to Porto before selling them on for huge profits.

With a new era beginning at Newcastle, a high-calibre sporting director appointment would be a huge statement of intent and would also lay the foundations for future success.
