Everton are now set to react to the departure of Amadou Onana by bringing a “complete midfielder” to Goodison Park.

Aston Villa have just agreed a £50m deal to sign the Belgium international from Everton – leaving a gaping hole in Sean Dyche‘s midfield.

Now – however – a replacement looks set to arrive at Everton

Everton set to sign Tanner Tessmann

A story from Tutto Mercato Web now claims that Inter Milan are close to signing Tanner Tessmann – and will then loan him to Everton.

The American is set to leave Venezia to join Inter Milan in a €7m (£6m) deal shortly, although he will not be settling down at the San Siro, as Dyche will then welcome him into his squad for the 2024/25 campaign.

Of course, that means Tessmann is unlikely to be a permanent replacement for Onana, although it does represent a short-term solution at a time where Everton do not have the funds to buy somebody of similar pedigree to the Belgian.

The man from Alabama enjoyed a strong 2023/24 campaign with Venezia, scoring seven goals – while also providing three assists – in 42 appearances from a defensive midfield role, which is quite an impressive return from that position.

Sean Dyche could sign a “complete midfielder”

As aforesaid, Tessmann has been described as the “complete midfielder” by his fellow American Gianluca Busio.

The 22-year-old told Goal: “He’s a complete midfielder, really. On the ball, it’s great to play with him because he can find any pass. I can make runs and I don’t even have to look at him, he knows where I’m going. His long balls are always on point.”

Of course, some Everton fans may be pessimistic about the chances of signing Tessmann on a permanent basis next summer, given the assumption that Inter Milan will surely want to have a look at their new acquisition in 2025.

However, if the 22-year-old thoroughly enjoys his time on Merseyside, then he himself could ask to stay, so anything is possible.

Be sure to keep an eye on this situation, as Inter Milan are expected to send Tessmann to Everton once a deal is finalised with Venezia.
