Commentator claims Conte would like to return to Juventus

Italian commentator Francesco Oppini has told JuventusNews24 that he is aware that Tottenham Hotspur boss Antonio Conte would like to return to Juventus sooner or later amid doubts over Massimiliano Allegri’s future in Turin.

Juve went into the World Cup absolutely flying in Serie A. They are top of the form table, winning their last six games in the top-flight. However, the Old Lady remain some way off the pace.

In fact, Juventus sit 10 points adrift of pace-setters Napoli. They are also out of the Champions League after losing five of their six group games.

Conte would like Juventus return

And with that, Allegri is potentially under pressure to prove that he can recapture the magic of his first spell with Juve.

Of course, another manager who enjoyed unbelievable success with Juventus is Conte. And while Allegri’s future is perhaps in doubt, Conte is going through an interesting time at Tottenham.

Spurs are in the top-four in the Premier League. And they are through in the Champions League. But it is hard to know whether they are moving forward at the rate Conte would like.

Conte is – rightly or wrongly – known as a volatile character. So it is difficult to predict how long his tenure at Tottenham will last.

What may not help is that he is keen to return to Juve, according to Oppini. The commentator was asked whether Conte returning is possible.

“I see it’s possible. From the knowledge I have, I know that Antonio considers Juve his home and sooner or later he would like to come back,” he told JuventusNews24.

“But if you waste time without making a contract for you right away for next year, we risk remaining in the same situation.”

Conte is surely not going to push to leave Tottenham while Allegri remains in place. Juventus are now getting their campaign back on track. So he is going to get some time to turn their fortunes around further.

The speculation does highlight how Spurs need to keep moving forward if they want to keep Conte. He is not someone who is going to put up with mediocrity from those around him.

Tottenham have backed him in the market so far. But it is clear that their squad is not at the level it needs to be just yet.

It will be very interesting to see what happens if Juve do decide to replace Allegri at any stage.
