‘Come back’, ‘need you now more than ever’: Some Spurs fans reach out to 37-year-old

A number of Tottenham Hotspur fans have taken to Twitter to praise Rafael van der Vaart following his kind comments about Spurs.

The Dutch maestro lit up White Hart Lane between 2010 and 2012, claiming 28 goals and 18 assists in 77 competitive appearances for the Lilywhites.

Despite his relatively short stint at Tottenham, Van der Vaart remains loved by the Spurs fanbase, and the feeling is more than mutual.

When Tottenham launched a new section on their website dedicated to the club’s legends, the 37-year-old tweeted Spurs to declare his pride at having played for the North Londoners.

Music to the ears of many Spurs fans, who responded to him with love and affection, and even called on him to come back as a player or coach.

Van der Vaart began his career at Ajax before moving to Hamburg in 2005, impressing so much that Real Madrid snapped him up three years later.

The Dutchman, who helped the Netherlands reach the 2010 World Cup final, joined Tottenham in September of that year from Real Madrid in an £8million deal.

In 2012, Van der Vaart returned to Hamburg for another three-year stint before seeing out his career with spells at Real Betis, Midtjylland and Esbjerg.
