Stan Collymore believes Tottenham can overcome the 1-0 first leg deficit they suffered last week against Ajax to qualify for the Champions League final.
According to the Sunday People, 05/05, page 55, Collymore came out in defence of the north London club despite the fact they were outplayed for much of last week’s encounter.
Collymore said: “Write off Tottenham in their Champions League semi-final with Ajax at your peril. They were missing Heung-min Son and Harry Kane, and Son at least will be back for the second leg.
“Brain Clough once said, ‘I hope nobody is stupid enough to write us off.’ Mauricio Pochettino will be thinking the same.”
Spurs haven’t been at their best lately as injuries and fatigue have caught up with them at the business end of the season, but they did manage to ruffle Ajax slightly in the second half last week.
Son’s return should make a huge difference to the pace Spurs are able to offer on the break, and scoring an all important away goal could make all the difference.
But Ajax did look very impressive last week and hold most of the cards ahead of what is likely to be an intriguing contest.
