Stan Collymore has told the Daily Mirror (17/8; page 55) that clubs such as Leeds United, West Ham or Aston Villa should consider Allan Saint-Maximin.

Saint-Maximin is unquestionably the most exciting player available to Newcastle United boss Steve Bruce.

The 24-year-old has the ability to terrify opposition players. He has been directly involved in 15 Premier League goals since arriving from Nice.

And his return from injury appeared to be pivotal as Newcastle looked to drag themselves away from danger last season.

The Magpies do boast some superb players. Both Joe Willock and Callum Wilson have shone on Tyneside in the last 12 months.

But Saint-Maximin is arguably the real game-changer. And should Newcastle struggle, he will surely be one of the first players to attract major offers.

And Collymore has suggested that he should be on the radar of a number of Premier League rivals.

“I like Allan Saint-Maximin – he has pace, skills and attitude.

“If I were in charge of recruitment of an upwardly mobile club such as West Ham, Everton, Leeds or Aston Villa, I’d take a punt on him,” he told the Daily Mirror (17/8; page 55).

One big problem as Collymore suggests Leeds, West Ham and Villa should target Saint-Maximin

There are not many Premier League sides who would struggle to find a place for Saint-Maximin in their ranks.

So he is almost certainly a player clubs such as Leeds, West Ham and Villa will think about.

However, there looks to be one big problem.

The Daily Mirror reported earlier this summer that Newcastle value Saint-Maximin at £60 million. And he apparently has another five years left on his contract, so they are under little pressure to let him go.

That price will surely drop if Newcastle are relegated. But even then, the Magpies should be able to ask for a fee that would require some of the clubs Collymore mentioned to break their transfer record.
