Cole Palmer scored his second senior goal on Tuesday night for Manchester City – prompting reaction from Jack Grealish, Phil Foden and Nigel de Jong.
Palmer, 19, was handed a 25-minute cameo role against Club Brugge on Tuesday night with Pep Guardiola’s side well in control of the match.
Of course, Palmer’s stock is high at the moment. Shining for England’s Under-21 side recently, he came on against Burnley in the Premier League.
Then, the same day, he appeared for the Under-23’s – scoring a hat-trick against Leicester in Premier League 2. His reputation is rising.
Handed 25 minutes against Brugge, he scored his first Champions League goal – his second at senior level, having netted against Wycombe in the Cup.
Palmer posted on Instagram after his strike, in which he cut inside and curled home. He underlined his delight to open his European account.
De Jong, Grealish and Foden react as Manchester City star Palmer scores
Palmer has now played nine games for Manchester City at senior, and Under-23 level this season. He already has nine goal involvements.
Scoring six times, he has also laid on three assists. Palmer is quickly being earmarked as the club’s next Phil Foden, given his attacking versatility.
He can play as a 10 or on either flank. By the time Pep Guardiola is done with him – the England Under-21 star will surely play false nine, too.
Grealish and Foden responded to Palmer on Instagram, while City icon de Jong took to Twitter to heap praise on his old club’s next young gun.
