Cody Gakpo has played against some of the very best defenders in the world in his career so far.

Indeed, with both Liverpool and the Netherlands, Cody Gakpo has played against some of the world’s best defenders.

William Saliba is seen as one of the world’s best, and he’s been one of Gakpo’s key rivals at Arsenal in recent times.

Meanwhile, Gakpo has also played against the likes of Ruben Dias, Gabriel Magalhaes and a whole host of other top defenders.

Speaking to Rising Ballers, Gakpo has now been asked to name his toughest opponent, and, interestingly, he named a former Chelsea player as his toughest ever opponent.

Cody Gakpo names Thiago Silva as his toughest opponent

Gakpo was asked to name his toughest opponent from his career so far.

The Dutchman took some time to think before ultimately landing on Thiago Silva as his answer.

Silva is a legend of the game, and while he spent his twilight years at Chelsea, he still made a massive impact on the Premier League in that time.

Just last week, Andrey Santos hailed Silva, while the Brazilian earned massive praise during his time at Stamford Bridge.

Cody Gakpo’s record vs Thiago Silva

Gakpo has named Silva as his toughest opponent, but, over the years, the Dutchman has a decent record against the Brazilian.

Indeed, Gakpo has actually never lost a game against Silva, and while he’s never personally scored a goal against the Brazilian, Liverpool did once put four past Silva when he was at Chelsea.

On a personal level, Gakpo never got a single goal or an assist against Silva, and that goes to show exactly why he considers the South American to be his toughest opponent of all-time.

Luckily for Gakpo, Silva is now back in Brazil and he won’t have to worry about playing against the veteran defender again anytime soon.
