Cody Gakpo responds to Liverpool man's message on Instagram, he seems really impressed
Cody Gakpo, a player who has been linked with Liverpool in recent weeks, has responded to a Virgil van Dijk post on Instagram.
Dutch outlet Voetbal International recently claimed that the 23-year-old has already spoken to the Reds about a prospective summer move.
Fabrizio Romano has also claimed that Liverpool have sent their scouts to watch Gakpo “many times”.
At present, the Reds boast one of the best front lines in world football.
Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane, Diogo Jota and Luis Diaz are all at Jurgen Klopp’s service.
However, the first three are all out of contract next summer.
Therefore, it makes sense for Klopp to be on the lookout for potential reinforcements in case one of more leave.
The Athletic recently reported that Gakpo extended his PSV contract until 2026.
But although he does not have a release clause, PSV understand that he expects to go if a suitable offer comes in.
The report added that Gakpo’s asking price could potentially be as high as £42million.
However, offers of £35million are apparently being discussed amongst his admirers.
Liverpool a step closer to Champions League final
On Wednesday night, Liverpool hosted Villarreal at Anfield.
Jurgen Klopp’s charges ran out 2-0 winners in a game where they dominated throughout.
The hosts boasted 73 percent of possession, won 10 corners and had 19 shots.
Villarreal did hold them at bay throughout the second half, but in the second half, Liverpool finally broke through.
In the 53rd minute, Jordan Henderson’s cross took a huge deflection off Pervis Estupinan.
The ball looped over goalkeeper Geronimo Rulli, who got a hand to it but couldn’t keep it from nestling in the corner.
Just two minutes later, Liverpool had grabbed their second.
Mohamed Salah poked a ball through the legs of Pau Torres for Sadio Mane, who coolly slotted beyond the keeper.
Van Dijk was a colossus in the game, even shouting at Ibrahima Konate to move the ball faster late on at 2-0 up.
On Thursday, the Dutchman took to Instagram with pictures from the game, and Gakpo responded with a fire emoji:
