With the summer transfer market in full swing, Arsenal will be expected to intensify their pursuit of players who’ll take the squad to the next level.
The Gunners took the Premier League title race to the last day of the season last term, the second year in a row that they’ve challenged for the trophy.
Obviously there’s still some work to do to transform Arsenal into the finished product, and the Gunners will no doubt be looking to strengthen their ranks.
In recent days, speculation linking Arsenal with “one of the best in the world” has intensified, and things seem to be heading in the right direction.

Arsenal target Riccardo Calafiori ‘has everything’ in his locker
The player in question is Bologna’s Riccardo Calafiori, a defender who has well and truly come to the fore over the past 12 months.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Arsenal have now agreed to terms on Calafiori‘s contract which will be valid until 2029.
Talks are said to be continuing between clubs, with the Serie A outfit apparently looking for a fee in the region of €50million (£42million).
Now, one of Calafiori’s former coaches has spoken to Sky Sports News about what Arsenal fans could expect for the 22-year-old.
When asked whether the Italian is a modern defender in the European game, Heiko Vogel replied: “Absolutely, because he has everything.
“On one hand you have the possession game, and on the other hand I think a full-back and also a centre-back needed to be a good defender.
“He’s aggressive, he’s good in the defence, in duels, in 1v1 situations, he has a good mentality, good at anticipation.
“Everything you need to be at the highest level, both in possession and opponents’ possession, he has everything.
“But he still improves. He’s a young guy and now he had Thiago Motta and next season Mikel Arteta I think it’s very good for his career and he’s improving.
“He has everything. He has tactical skills, he has technical skills, he can reach the next level.”
Arsenal making good progress towards Calafiori signing
Recent developments between Arsenal and Calafiori will be music to Gunners fans’ ears.
At just 22 years of age, the Italian has already been described as “one of the best” left-footed defenders in the world by Romano.
Calafiori is a great modern-day defender, registering seven goal contributions in 30 Serie A appearances last season and impressing at the back as Bologna qualified for the Champions League.
Hopefully there will be more positive updates in the coming days as Arteta and Edu look to secure the final pieces of the jigsaw.
