Leeds United were reportedly in talks to sign goal machine striker Mbaye Diagne back in the January transfer window after stunning the Turkish SuperLig with his incredible form for Kasimpasa.

Turkish Football claimed earlier this year that Leeds United were in talks to land the 27-year-old striker for a bargain fee of £3.6million, but the Whites failed to bring the attacker to Elland Road.

His incredible form for Kasimpasa had seen him score an enormous 20 goals in just 19 outings, and that saw Galatasaray decide to spend the required fee for the four-time Senegal international.

Instead, he was bought by bitter Leeds rivals Galatasaray, where has has since scored 11 goals in 17 outings and helped Fatih Terim’s side win the SuperLig title. He has a contract at Gala until the summer of 2023.

Despite his impressive form, Turkish outlet Sabah have claimed that Gala are looking to offload the striker this summer with the club said to be interested in signing West Ham United attacker Javier Hernandez.

So, should Leeds reignite their January interest in Diagne and look to bring the powerhouse striker to Elland Road? They may find competition from Norwich City, with the Star claiming the Canaries are willing to spend £17million.

Leeds could do with a striker. Patrick Bamford struggled to mirror the hefty transfer fee that brought him to Elland Road from Middlesbrough, while Kemar Roofe scored 15 goals but suffered two lengthy injuries.

Bringing in a player that guarantees goals could be on Marcelo Bielsa’s shortlist this summer, and Diagne certainly does that. If the Whites can knock Gala down from their original £17million asking price, they could do business.
