Arsenal could do a fair bit of shopping in Mikel Arteta’s homeland this summer.
Spain has often proved to be a fruitful source of talent for the Gunners, with Arsene Wenger previously unearthing the likes of Cesc Fabregas from La Masia, while also taking Alexis Sanchez, Mesut Ozil and Santi Cazorla from Spanish football too.
Mikel Arteta has also found success in this particular market, signing Martin Odegaard and Mikel Merino from Real Madrid and Real Sociedad respectively.
Now, the latter think Arsenal have taken another star from them.
Real Sociedad think Arsenal have signed Martin Zubimendi
A story from Marca in Spain now states that Real Sociedad think Arsenal have signed Martin Zubimendi – with the deal considered done.
The Spanish news outlet add that Arsenal also expect the Spain international to move to the Emirates Stadium once the 2024/25 campaign ends, with all parties seemingly in agreement that this deal is basically finalised.
Zubimendi – who Liverpool tried to sign last summer – is also a target for Real Madrid, with Marca adding that a late €60m (£50m) move from Florentino Perez, President at the Santiago Bernabeu, could scupper the deal for Arsenal.

However – at this stage – that feels unlikely, so Arsenal look to be in pole position to sign the Real Sociedad No.4 at the end of the season.
Zubimendi is also refusing to sign a new contract – with his current terms expiring in June 2027 – a clear indicator that he is keen on the move to Arsenal.
Arsenal could also sign Joan Garcia from Espanyol – another player starring in La Liga.
Martin Zubimendi will replace Jorginho
Putting two and two together, it seems the 26-year-old will arrive to replace Jorginho.
The Italy international sees his contract expire in June, and there is yet to be any talk of him being offered a new contract.
Reports state that Jorginho has agreed to join Flamengo, a rumour the Arsenal No.20 fuelled when admitting to ESPN that he would like to play in Brazil. He said: “I want to experience that. I don’t think I missed out, but I’m curious today to know what it’s like (to play in Brazil) – to experience it.”
Therefore, it looks like Arteta will swap his 33-year-old midfielder for a younger option in Zubimendi this summer.
