Liverpool haven’t had much luck in the summer transfer window so far.

Indeed, the Reds are yet to get a deal done, and many of their targets are proving to be unattainable.

Leny Yoro looks set for Real Madrid, while Joao Neves may just be too expensive.

Another player Liverpool have looked at this summer is Goncalo Inacio, but, unfortunately, it looks as though the Merseyside club may struggle to sign the Portuguese defender in this window.

Sporting’s stance on Goncalo Inacio has changed

According to Record, Sporting have now changed their stance on selling Goncalo Inacio this summer.

Heading into the summer, Sporting reportedly saw Inacio’s departure as something of a ‘necessary evil’ as they look to bring in some cash to balance the books.

However, now, Sporting seem to be keen to keep the player.

That said, Record do note that it’s not impossible for Inacio to leave this summer if his release clause is met, just that Sporting would now be more inclined to keep him if possible.

Liverpool could still get Inacio

Sporting may want to keep Inacio, but the reality is that the player’s future is out of their hands.

Inacio has a €60m (£51m) release clause in his contract, and if that clause is triggered, the Portuguese champions will be powerless to keep the defender.

Of course, whether or not Liverpool do go after Inacio remains to be seen.

The Reds are also said to be keen on Mohamed Simakan, while Leny Yoro is still someone the Merseyside club would love to sign.

One thing is for sure, Liverpool need defensive reinforcements through the door this summer, and the fact that Inacio has a release clause means that he could be an easily attainable target – even if they have to pay an inflated fee to sign him.

Sporting don’t want to sell Inacio, but this is still one to keep an eye on.
