Crystal Palace have today confirmed that reported Aston Villa target Wayne Hennessey has left the club, on their official website.
A step closer
The Birmingham Mail say that Villa are looking at signing the 34-year-old goalkeeper heading into the new season.
Dean Smith presumably feels as if he could serve as a good replacement for Tom Heaton, who left the club to join Manchester United earlier this summer.
And Palace have now confirmed that Villa are free to move for Hennessey.
Unfortunately for Villa they may not get a free shot at signing the Welsh international.
Hennessey is also said to be being tracked by Chelsea, who are looking to add depth to their own goalkeeping department.

More depth
If Villa were to land the experienced stopper he would offer them Premier League knowhow and ensure that Emiliano Martinez stays on his toes.
Martinez had a wonderful first season at Villa and will be a key player next time around.
But Hennessey should help Villa ensure that they have a contingency plan if the Argentina Copa America hero is unavailable.
