Club Brugge boss reportedly makes personal call to lure Victor Wanyama away

Club Brugge are closing in on a deal to sign Victor Wanyama from Tottenham Hotspur before the end of the Belgian transfer window next week. The Mirror is reporting a potential £10 million fee will be paid for the player.

The Kenyan international is surplus to requirements at Spurs and the Belgian side are hopeful of pulling off a coup by luring him back to Belgian football.

Wanyama previously played in Belgium with Germinal Beerschot in Antwerp. One of his team-mates during his time with the club was current Brugge boss Philippe Clement.

Now it seems the Brugge boss has been trying to convince Wanyama into the move personally. As reported by Het Nieuwsblad, the Brugge manager spoke to the Tottenham midfielder in a bid to convince him to make the move.

Wanyama has been playing in the Premier League and, of course, was a Champions League finalist last season, so heading to the Belgian top-flight could be seen as a massive step down.

But Clement is clearly of the belief he can convince Wanyama that a move to the club is in his best interests. The report also points out that Brugge’s result against LASK Linz in the Champions League qualifier this evening could be crucial.

It seems Wanyama’s time at Tottenham is up and, in the long run, it will surely be better if he does decide to make the move to Brugge.

Whilst not the Premier League he will be playing European football and challenging for titles on a regular basis.

Time will tell if Clement has managed to convince Wanyama into the move.
