Clinton Morrison labels Arsenal goalkeeper Bernd Leno ‘lucky’

Clinton Morrison told BBC Radio Five Live (14/3; 18:19) that Bernd Leno was incredibly lucky not to concede from Harry Kane’s free-kick during Arsenal’s North London derby win on Sunday.

Mikel Arteta’s men secured the bragging rights at the Emirates. They beat Spurs 2-1, with Martin Odegaard and Alexandre Lacazette overseeing the turnaround for the home side.

Tottenham were poor for much of the game. However, they put the Gunners under pressure late on and came agonisingly close to finding an equaliser.

Thomas Partey gave away a free-kick not far away from Arsenal’s penalty area. Kane kept his effort low and found the far post before Davinson Sanchez saw his rebound blocked by Gabriel Magalhaes.

And Morrison seemed to suggest that no player would have breathed a bigger sigh of relief than Leno after Kane’s effort bounced out.

“Harry Kane is unlucky,” he told BBC Radio Five Live. “Bernd Leno takes a step to his right and Harry Kane sees that. He’s such a lucky goalkeeper.”

It does appear that Leno makes his move across at the last moment, so it seems unlikely that Kane would have been able to make such a late change if he was planning to go for the near post.

And Arsenal meanwhile, will argue that they earned a piece of fortune from the woodwork anyway. Both Emile Smith Rowe and Cedric Soares were denied in similar fashion during the first-half.
