Clinton Morrison criticises Leeds manager Marcelo Bielsa for not speaking more English

Clinton Morrison has given his thoughts on Arsenal manager Unai Emery trying his best to communicate in English while Marcelo Bielsa still uses an interpreter.

On TalkSport, Morrison said Bielsa should speak in English more often and did credit Emery for trying to do that at the very least.

He said: “Credit to Emery, he’s trying and I believe Bielsa… if you’re coming to a new country, you should learn the language. As a professional, if you go to Italy or Spain, you should learn the language because you’re trying to adapt.

“I believe Unai Emery, he is trying his best but I feel he can do a bit more. With Bielsa, he should try and learn a bit more.”

TBR’s View – Treatment of Emery probably offers clue to why Bielsa plays it safe with an interpreter

In an era where every word a manager says is pored over, it’s hardly surprising that Bielsa sticks with an interpreter to take some pressure off himself and ensure his message gets across as clearly as possible.

Emery has been mocked for saying ‘good ebening’ online and for someone like Bielsa seeing that, it’s hardly likely to encourage him to take the plunge and speak more regularly in English.

It’s no failing on Bielsa’s part not to conduct interviews in English.
