Clinton Morrison admits doubting Patrick van Aanholt penalty decision

Crystal Palace came away with a hard-fought 2-1 win from their clash with West Ham United at the London Stadium yesterday. A late VAR decision saw Jordan Ayew’s goal given and Palace came away with three points despite West Ham’s decent performance.

One of the key players behind the win was Dutch international Patrick van Aanholt.

The left-back was pivotal as Palace came from 1-0 down to claim the three points. It was from his delivery into the box that Declan Rice eventually handled to give away a penalty. The Dutchman then scored the penalty before Ayew’s winner.

But it appears one former Palace frontman did not have a lot of confidence in Van Aanholt’s ability from the spot.

Clinton Morrison, who scored over 100 goals in two separate spells at Selhurst Park, took to Twitter to admit he was not sure about the defender taking the spot-kick.

Van Aanholt did not disappoint but Morrison was right to be concerned. Luka Milivojevic is usually Palace’s trusted dispatcher from 12 yards but was absent through suspension.

According to transfermarkt’s statistics, this was Van Aanholt’s first penalty in his career and he certainly took it well.

Here’s hoping he continues to thrive in the role whenever the Serbian is not available.
