Tottenham Hotspur legend Cliff Jones has backed Tottenham Hotspur and Jose Mourinho to pick up three points on their return to action on Friday evening – as Spurs prepare to play host to Manchester United.
Mourinho welcomes his old side to north London this evening in the fourth Premier League match to take place since the suspension of top-tier English football was lifted. Norwich City host Southampton before Tottenham’s outing.
Spurs come into the match in dismal form, having failed to win in any of their last six league and cup outings. However, the break has played into Tottenham’s hands, with Harry Kane, Steven Bergwijn, Moussa Sissoko and Son Heung-min returning.
Spurs icon Jones predicted his old club to beat Mourinho’s former side by two goals to one, with England captain Kane finding the back of the net. Tottenham fans will be delighted with such a result, given United were in excellent form.
TBR’s view – Where the game will be won and lost
Central midfield will prove crucial. Spurs are set to welcome back Sissoko, but lack a proper holding midfielder with the athleticism and defensive mind set to provide a shield for the defence. Keeping Bruno Fernandes quiet, is crucial.
Paul Pogba is also expected to return to action, and keeping the Frenchman under control is also crucial – if he starts. Marcus Rashford may look to expose Toby Alderweireld’s lack of pace. But Son and Kane will surely put United’s back line to test.
Kane and Harry Maguire know eachother well, and that battle could also prove pivotal. A close game is expected, with home advantage flying out the window without the fans – as the Bundesliga has proved.
